During the 2016 Town Meeting and Town Ballot, a strong majority of Harvard residents voted to approve the first of two steps for the HES building project, including a feasibility study and proposal of design options for the future of Hildreth Elementary School. This vote has allowed us to move forward in our partnership with the Massachusetts School Building Authority, which is providing technical guidance as well as an estimated 46% reimbursement for this stage of the project.  Our partnership with the MSBA will also provide approximately $15 million reimbursement toward the building project.

For the last year, the HES Building Committee has worked with our partners to evaluate the needs of the building and consider alternatives, including renovation or replacement of the building. In June 2017, the HES Building Committee voted to propose replacing the elementary school. The design will be further developed by the architects in conjunction with the building committee. We expect that this will be presented at the Spring 2018 town meeting for a vote, with potential construction and/or renovation work to be completed around 2021.
