Dear HES Families,

As we near the end of another wonderful school year, students across all grade levels continue to learn, grow, and make meaningful connections within our school and the broader community. Below are pictures from some of the wonderful experiences that took place over the past week.

Families celebrated the accomplishments of
our Kindergarten students.

Second graders wrapped up their learning about pollinators with a
visit from the members of the Harvard Garden Club.

Students participated in a strings
"petting zoo"
with guest violinist Anne McKee.

Fourth and fifth graders learned about climate
change from the TBS Green Team.

We want to encourage and support students to keep reading over the summer! Literacy Coach Kerry Cusick and Library/Tech Teacher Marybeth Quaadgras have put together lots of resources for families about summer reading. Click HERE and happy reading!

Have a great week!

School Announcements

Once again, the PTO is running a bulk school supply sale for families wishing to purchase school supplies for their K-5 students for next school year. Supplies are the same, name-brand items on the HES list (Ticonderoga and Crayola, for example), at pricing very similar to purchasing from a major retailer, and will be delivered directly to classrooms before the start of the school year. More information will be sent out soon, with a link to the site to purchase. Please fill out this form to request financial assistance in purchasing school supplies for your student(s) for next year. Requests will be kept confidential.

Library Class Visits to the HPL

We will be continuing our class visits to the Harvard Public Library (HPL) to learn about their Summer Reading Program from the children's librarian, Ms. Abby Kingsbury. We will be visiting the HPL during library-technology classes on June 4-June 10. Rain dates are set for June 11 to June 17.  Program registration information and a calendar of activities will be sent home with each student as the visits to the HPL are completed.

HES Library Books

With the end of the school year approaching, library book checkouts have ended. As of June 9, we still have 143 books checked out. A second printing of paper notices with images of the books still checked out will be sent home with students this week. Please have students look for any books they have borrowed and return them to the HES Library as soon as possible.

There are no fines for overdue books. Book replacement fees are assessed if books are lost or damaged beyond repair. If a book is lost or damaged beyond repair, please send in a replacement book or pay the amount listed on the paper notice (check payable to HES with note in the memo line "Library Book"). If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Quaadgras mquaadgras@psharvard.org.

Nurse Amanda would like to remind families to put on sunscreen and bug spray at home before school. Staff cannot apply these to students during the school day without a doctor's order. Thank you!

Help protect Harvard’s Wood Turtles, which are listed as a Species of Special Concern. If you spot one, take a clear photo from a distance and report it through MassWildlife’s Heritage Hub. Your sightings help biologists track populations and protect local habitat. Fun fact: Wood Turtles gently stomp their feet to mimic rain, tricking earthworms into coming to the surface. Please remember: it’s illegal to possess a Wood Turtle, so admire and let it continue on its way.

Registration for Monty Tech's 2026 Summer Camp is now live! We have streamlined the registration process so families will complete the registration, payment and medical form all online at one time. Click HERE to learn more and register.
