Dear HES Families,

The second issue of Husky Headlines is here! Thank you to advisor Jess Reynolds, our parent volunteers, and of course our amazing grades 3-5 journalists. Click on the image below to read!

Tomorrow is our second day of conferences. We are looking forward to seeing families on zoom and in the building! If you are coming to the building and bringing your child with you, we will have some quiet activities you can grab on your way in. Please also check out our lost and found. Thank you in advance to the PTO and Bill Ference for providing lunch for our teachers.

Have a great week!

School Announcements

Nurse Amanda will be out on medical leave until mid-December. During her absence we will have a nurse here every day. We wish Nurse Amanda an easy recovery.

We know that families occasionally have opportunities for travel or planned time away. We want to be sure everyone is aware of our handbook policy around requesting student work, which can be found on page 16 of our Family Handbook:
While teachers will allow students to make up missed assignments, tests, and quizzes, they are not required to prepare work in advance. In addition, teachers are not required to tutor students when they return from vacation; it is the family’s responsibility to catch students up on missed work. Teachers are readily available, of course, to assist students in making up work after an illness.

Our lost and found is overflowing! Fifth grade safety patrol members are working hard to return items with names, but we still have lots of unlabeled clothes, hats, and water bottles. Please encourage your child to check the lost and found if they are missing something, and if you are in the building for conferences, please stop by. We will be donating anything left in the Lost and Found after Thanksgiving.

Celebrations Around the World Exhibit
Arm in Arm, in partnership with the Children’s Room in the Harvard Public Library, present the Celebrations Around the World exhibit. Every month from October through May, a holiday celebration from various parts of the world will be honored in the display case located between the holiday books in the Children’s Room. Exhibits will include information and artifacts highlighting cultural decor, apparel, food, and other items significant to the celebration. Community members are encouraged to participate in the exhibit by loaning the library personal items to be used in the display, perusing the various books about the celebration curated by the HPL, and enjoying a grab-n-go craft/activity provided by Arm in Arm. Want your Cultural Celebration on display? Have something to loan the HPL in support of a scheduled display? Please see Children’s Librarian or contact Arm in Arm at arminarm.townofharvard@gmail.com
