Dear HES Families,

With October in full swing, our students are engaged in meaningful and engaging learning throughout the school. Here are just a few examples:

Kindergarteners are practicing letter formation using many
different materials -- shaving cream, sand, clay, and more!

Fourth graders are working on research projects in social
studies about Canada and Mexico.

First graders are rolling objects and knocking down bowling
pins to build coordination, aim, and body control in PE class.

Last week our Kindergarten students visited Westward Orchards and today they walked to the fire station! Thank you to our amazing K team for planning these experiences and to all the parents who volunteer.

Have a great week!

Cookbook Club, A Taste of World Cultures: Austria (Volunteers Hall, Meets Monthly)
October 14,  7 pm
Do you enjoy cooking & sharing food? Trying new flavors? Join us as we embark on a year long culinary adventure to learn more about world cultures, and try new food!  Each month, members of cookbook club will check out a cookbook about food from a particular region or country and bring a dish for a potluck dinner and discussion about the food and culture.  Come for one or more meetings and bring the family.  (In collaboration with the Harvard Public Library and Arm in Arm)

Celebrations Around the World Exhibit
Arm in Arm, in partnership with the Children’s Room in the Harvard Public Library, present the Celebrations Around the World exhibit. Every month from October through May, a holiday celebration from various parts of the world will be honored in the display case located between the holiday books in the Children’s Room. Exhibits will include information and artifacts highlighting cultural decor, apparel, food, and other items significant to the celebration. Community members are encouraged to participate in the exhibit by loaning the library personal items to be used in the display, perusing the various books about the celebration curated by the HPL, and enjoying a grab-n-go craft/activity provided by Arm in Arm. Want your Cultural Celebration on display? Have something to loan the HPL in support of a scheduled display? Please see Children’s Librarian or contact Arm in Arm at arminarm.townofharvard@gmail.com
