Dear HES Families,

We had a super fun spirit day last week! Students and staff showed their spirit in costumes, fall colors, and HES-wear, and our youngest students treated us to a parade through the halls. We also enjoyed our fourth graders' pumpkin projects. Everyone was impressed by the pumpkins they decorated to look like book characters, and their writing about those characters!

Congratulations to the cast of Space Pirates on three amazing performances! We are so lucky to partner with SuperStar to provide this opportunity to students.

Thank you to the Rotary Club of Ayer, Shirley, Harvard and Devens for donating dictionaries to each of our third graders last week. We are grateful for your generosity!

Have a great week!

School Announcements

Veteran's Day
On Friday will be holding a short assembly at 9:30 am to teach our students about Veteran's Day and to honor our Veterans. We welcome photos of any service members who are unable to attend or photos in memory of loved ones who have served.  Please send photos to jreynolds@psharvard.org with the person's name and 'in memory of' if applicable.

Pajama Drive
At our last school meeting, we discussed the importance of taking care of others, and kicked off our annual pajama drive to benefit the Pajama Program. This year the organization is partnering with Scholastic, and for every pair of pajamas donated, they will also donate a Scholastic book to a family in need. We are collecting children's sizes of pajamas through the end of November and we will celebrate with a school-wide pajama day on November 26!

Parent/Guardian Conferences
On November 14 and 21 we will hold our fall conferences in the afternoon and early evening. This is an opportunity to meet with your child's teacher and learn about your child's progress so far this year. Classroom teachers will send out sign-up sheets for in-person and zoom conferences.

If you would like a special educator who works with your child to join the conference, please let your child's classroom teacher know. If you would like to meet with a specialist teacher or our ELA Specialist, please email them to schedule a time. Specialists will also be in their classrooms and welcome you to stop by if you are in the building during conferences.

If you choose in-person conferences and need to bring your child with you, we ask that they wait quietly outside the classroom during your conference. We will have some coloring and other activities to pick up on your way into the building.

The PTO is providing dinner for the HES staff at the first conference night on November 14th. Click here to sign up to supplement food & beverages or to volunteer to set up or break down.
