Dear HES Families,
Last Friday we held our October school meeting. First, we reviewed the Zones of Regulation, and then Mrs. Price's Kindergarten students shared a book they wrote about different strategies for when they are in the red zone.
After a fun movement break with Paws, we enjoyed this month's "getting to know you" segment featuring host Mr. Snell and guests Mrs. Steeves, Ms. Edna, and Ms. Lowney.
Finally, we kicked off our annual pajama drive to benefit the Pajama Program. This year, the organization is partnering with Scholastic, and for every pair of pajamas donated, they will also donate a Scholastic book to a family in need. We are collecting children's sizes of pajamas through the end of November and we will celebrate with a school-wide pajama day on November 26.
Have a great week!

School Announcements
Nurse Update Nurse Amanda will be taking an 8-week leave starting today. She is having a spinal procedure that requires healing time. While she is out there will always be a nurse in the building. If you have health concerns or questions, please reach out to our district nurse leader, Jess Capobianco, jcapobianco@psharvard.org. We wish Nurse Amanda an easy recovery and look forward to having her back in the building in late December!
Fall Spirit Day On October 31, we will have a fall spirit day! Students are welcome (but not required) to come to school in costumes, fall colors, or HES-wear. To keep everyone safe, please do not send students with costume masks, weapons, or capes.
Parent/Guardian Conferences On November 14 and 21 we will hold our fall conferences in the afternoon and early evening. This is an opportunity to meet with your child's teacher and learn about your child's progress so far this year. Classroom teachers will send out sign-up sheets for in-person and zoom conferences.
If you would like a special educator who works with your child to join the conference, please let your child's classroom teacher know. If you would like to meet with a specialist teacher or our ELA Specialist, please email them to schedule a time. Specialists will also be in their classrooms and welcome you to stop by if you are in the building during conferences.
If you choose in-person conferences and need to bring your child with you, we ask that they wait quietly outside the classroom during your conference. We will have some coloring and other activities to pick up on your way into the building.
Picture Retakes Next Week! We will be offering school picture retakes on Tuesday, October 29. Please send your child's photos in on that day if you want them to retake their school picture.

Veteran's Day
We will be holding a short assembly on Friday, November 8th at 9:30 am to teach our students about Veteran's Day and to honor our Veterans. We would like to invite parents/relatives of our students and members of our community who have served in the Armed Forces to join us for light refreshments at 9:00 am followed by a program for the whole school at 9:30 am. We would love to have you wear or bring your uniform if possible! Please fill out this form or inform the HES office by Friday, November 1st if you would like to attend.
Additionally, we welcome photos of any service members who are unable to attend or photos in memory of loved ones who have served. Please send photos to jreynolds@psharvard.org with the person's name and 'in memory of' if applicable.
