Dear HES Families,

Last week at Curriculum Night you had a chance to hear about what your child will be learning this year, so today we want to share with you the learning our teachers do during the summer and school year. Staying up to date on new research, strategies, and resources is an important part of being an educator, and our teachers take this responsibility very seriously.

In addition to the work we do together during professional development time on half days, here are just a few of the professional learning experiences our teachers have participated in over the last several months:
  • Book studies in our school and online with other educators of texts related to early literacy and restorative practices.
  • Online courses about Universal Design for Learning, literacy, restorative practices, growth mindset, and teaching students with special needs.
  • A workshop at Worcester Polytechnic Institute about teaching science in elementary schools.
  • A course about self-care for educators, with mindfulness strategies that can be applied in the classroom.
  • Work with colleagues to redesign curricular units and lessons to ensure learning is accessible, joyful, and appropriately challenging for all students.
We are so fortunate to have such dedicated teachers working with our students!
We are grateful to the PTO, Mrs. Q, and the Silver Unicorn Book Store for a very successful book fair. We sold over 1,000 books for our students to enjoy at home and in their classrooms! Thank you to all our families for your generosity and for helping us instill a love of reading in our students.

Have a great week!
