Dear HES Families,

It was wonderful to have so many families in the building last night for Curriculum Night! A huge thank you to our teachers for their hard work preparing, presenting, and sharing resources. We are also grateful to AlphaBEST and our local girl scout troop for providing free childcare to make it possible for families to attend.
On next Wednesday's half day (10/9) we will be offering a grab and go lunch option to students. Students will select their lunch in the morning and it will be delivered to them before dismissal to take home in their backpack. Please remind students who ride the bus that they may not eat on the bus. Students who stay for AlphaBEST will eat in the cafeteria after dismissal.

Thank you to the PTO for sponsoring our first Coffee with the Principals this year!

Have a great week!

Rebecca and Hilary

Universal Screening in Reading and Math

We have completed our beginning of the year universal screenings in reading and math. These assessments, which we conduct three times each year, provide information about each student's reading and math skills. Here in Harvard, we use the DIBELS 8th literacy screener and the AimsWeb math screener, both of which are are approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. These assessments are quick to administer and help us make sure all students are on track for grade-level success in reading and math. One way we use these screening data is to see who would benefit from additional support in reading and/or math. You will be notified if you child qualifies for intervention, which may take place in their classroom or outside of their classroom in an interventionist's space. We schedule intervention very carefully to be sure that students do not miss instruction in their classrooms. If you have any questions or concerns regarding universal screening or intervention please contact Beth Robinson at brobinson@psharvard.org
